This Version of the AiDaNews2 module works on Joomla! 2.5, 1.7 and 1.6

Description

AiDaNews is back! AiDaNews2 is the next step in the direction of an easy and versatile Joomla! Module that lets everyone, from experts to novice webmasters, show their articles in an appealing and higly-customisable way.

The module has been rewritten from scratch starting from Joomla!'s own latestnews module, and this rework resulted in a much more elegant and lightweight code. Now AiDaNews follows the MVC pattern (so the articles are retrieved in an helper file and displayed using a template file), passes the W3C code check without an error, uses CSS files instead of style tags (but mantains the possibility of styling the module right from the backend!), has CSS classes for every element (and even special classes for first/last element and such) and is overall a much more reliable and correct module from the point of view of the code.

This isn't only a 'debug' though: AiDaNews2 has lots of new features that will make the users' life easier. Pre-made styles will rapidly make the module match every kind of site, and will allow experts to create their own configurations that can be shared between groups of modules making manteinance easier. Layout positions have been extended from 5 to 9, and their appearance and position can be changed through css with endless possibilities. The module now uses a css file, but css can also be inserted from the module's backend (and you can even use a css file and then add some additional CSS rules for each individual istance). The module's backend has been slightly modified to be easier to navigate: tabs have been divided into categories, and their titles are now more descriptive. The module contains many more additions: secondary ordering, up to three images that can be individually linked to articles, profiles, categories and so on, tableless grid layout... and all the options that made AiDaNews so peculiar.

So here's AiDaNews2: a complete debug and adjustment of the first iteration of the module, with the addition of many useful options that will satisfy any need. Everything with the simplicity of descriptive tips right in the backend, or (finally!) the possibility to read through a huge amount of FAQs and explanations in the Module's Documentation on Aimini.it.

Changelog:

Version 2.1.0 - J!2.5

[+] New Image Library! (https://github.com/masterexploder/PHPThumb);
[+] New Joomla! 2.5 article image fields are supported;
[+] Sticky (Important) Articles Option: insert some article ids, and those articles will be displayed on top in the order you wrote them. If there's room for other articles, they will be selected as usual;
[+] Javascript Pagination, at last! Select how many articles to display per page, where to show the navigation buttons and more. Please remember it's non AJAX, so all articles get loaded with the page;
[+] CSS Field has been replaced with CSS FieldS: their behaviour is the same as the old AiDaNews"1" fields;
[+] AiDaQuick: use more lighter queries. Designed for sites with a lot of articles, tell me if it makes your site faster!
[+] Related Articles with Similar Title lets you show similar elements to users without using metakeys;
[>] JComments and Udja Comments are now supported!
[>] Some new CSS classes: today shows up only if the article's date is today's date;
[>] The catid css class lets you style each article differently depending on the category it's in;
[>] If you use a gallery plugin with non-default base gallery settings, now there's a field that allows you to make everything work without hacking the module;
[>] Current Category Only now works properly both in category and article views. You can also select what to show in the other views;
[>] A new field lets you input a custom grid column width if you don't like the automatically calculated one;
[>] You can now use Language Files for some text - text in positions still can't be translated automatically though;
[>] The module now checks if the Thumbnails class has already been loaded by some other extension before loading it (will be useful soon... :D);
[*] Corrected problem with double quotes in text;
[*] Kunena Avatars are now displayed correctly;
[*] If the module cannot reach the Server to check for updates, a notice will appear in the module's backend;
[*] The shorten function has been edited so that it works correctly even with oriental languages (thanks toemon!);
[*] The module now works with newer PHP versions too (the eregi function isn't used any more);
[*] [image] tag in positions is now correctly detected even if it's the first tag in the head position;
[*] Minor CSS and Language File corrections, and maybe something else I may have forgotten!

Remember you need to have PHP5 installed on your server for AiDaNews2 to work properly!

How to Install/Upgrade

Installing:

Simply download the .zip package and install it using Joomla's own panel for extensions.

Upgrading:

The module now supports Joomla 1.7 Update panel! Just get to Extensions -> Updates and look for AiDaNews2 1.7! You can also install the new package and install it on top of the old one, as usual.

Hi I think my message disappeared, and never got posted!
Ok, I just thanked you again for your WONDERFUL module and then asked a question:
My problem is that I use your module to show most viewed article and for some reasons some of the articles have received lots of hits and now they're basically left to be shown on top of the module forever.
My question is that there is way to set a time period to show the articles, like this week or this month most viewed article! This will help me GREATLY
Thanks
Niloo

There's an option for that, Between X and Y days ago :D

You really ROCK :)

I can indicate where in the installer for joomla 2.5 does not see it anywhere, and I need this module because it is the best in its class.
